The new research building, which will also house the life sciences start-up scene, is being built in the immediate vicinity of ZWT I and is located on the Med Campus. The main focus of the architectural design is the integrated and at the same time independent access structure. This represents the new connection between Stiftingtal Strasse and the campus level.
The building includes a spacious lounge area on the ground floor as well as office and lab clusters on the five upper floors. ZWT II is a reinforced concrete structure. The load is distributed via columns and parapet beams in the facade. The foundation was designed as a shallow foundation with drilled piles. The building is braced via the core containing the staircases and a sufficient number of slab fragments in the outer walls, which continue down into the foundations.
The access structure is built as a self-supporting steel frame structure. The flights of stairs are suspended from the respective ceiling beams using a steel structure.
