The existing structure was built around 1895 and has already been verticaly extended once in the middle of the 20th century. The present project was a further vertical extension in form of an additional attic storey.
The extension is constructed as a steel frame structure. The steel frames span from outer wall to outer wall, enabling a flexible design of the inner spaces. The resulting additional load required reinforcements to the existing buildings structure in certain areas across all storeys.
At the same time, various remodelling and repurposing measures were being carried out threwout the existing building (installation of lifts and shafts / widening of stairs / enclosing the atrium / wall openings / etc.).
